The Ultimate 3-Week Philippines Itinerary: Beaches, Boats & Bucket-List Moments
Planning a 3-week trip to the Philippines and not sure where to begin? After spending an unforgettable 21 days exploring its dreamy islands with my girlfriend and sister, I can confidently say: this itinerary covers the best highlights the Philippines has to offer—especially if you’re craving pristine beaches, epic boat adventures, and a mix of chill and party vibes.
Let’s dive into how to make the most of your 3 weeks in this magical island nation.
First Things First: Don’t Underestimate the Philippines
Before we get into the day-by-day route, one important note: 3 weeks is not enough. I’ve spent a total of two months in the Philippines over time, and I’ve still only scratched the surface. If you can stay longer—do it. This place is that special.
Also, unlike mainland Southeast Asia where you can easily hop between cities by bus or train, the Philippines is all about island-hopping. That means you’ll be flying a lot—or occasionally braving long, bumpy ferry rides.
📍 Week 1: Coron & the Ultimate Island Expedition
✈️ Land in Manila (1 Night)
You’ll likely fly into Manila. Unless you’re a big fan of busy cities, I recommend keeping it short. We stayed just one night before heading straight to paradise.
🛥️ Fly to Coron (3 Nights)
Located on Busuanga Island, Coron is a tropical dream. It’s best known for its jaw-dropping island-hopping tours, with dramatic limestone cliffs, turquoise lagoons, and WWII shipwreck dive sites.
Must-Do:
-
Twin Lagoon boat tour – One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.
-
Stay at Outpost Hostel – Rooftop pool, good food, chill vibes.
🚤 Coron to El Nido – The TOA Expedition (4 Days, 3 Nights)
Sure, you can take a 3-hour fast ferry between Coron and El Nido—but if you want one of the best experiences of your life, take a multi-day boat expedition instead.
We chose The Tao Experience (also known as TOA), and it was hands-down one of the highlights of our entire trip. You’ll:
-
Camp on remote, empty islands.
-
Eat incredible food prepared by onboard chefs.
-
Bond with 20+ fellow travelers.
-
Disconnect completely.
Trust me, don’t skip this.
📍 Week 2: El Nido & Port Barton
🌊 El Nido (3 Nights)
Now you’re in Palawan’s most famous beach town. It’s touristy, yes—but for good reason. The cliffs, lagoons, and waters here are like something out of a dream.
Top Experiences:
-
Tour A boat trip – Visit the Big Lagoon, cruise through limestone karsts by kayak, and feel like you’re in Jurassic Park.
-
Stay at Friends Hostel – Great rooftop, central location, tasty eats.
Tip: El Nido is bustling, so expect crowds. But the nightlife and restaurant scene is excellent.
🌴 Port Barton (2 Nights)
Ready for something quieter? Take a not-so-fun 4-hour bus ride to Port Barton. The bumpy journey is worth it. This little beach town is all about laid-back island life.
Highlights:
-
Booze Cruise boat tour – Book it through Coco Rico Hostel (a fun party hostel with a great social vibe).
-
Visit Starfish Island, a dreamy sandbar that feels like walking on water.
📍 Week 3: Puerto Princesa to Siargao
✈️ Puerto Princesa (1 Night)
Not much to do here, but it’s your launching point for the next flight. If you have time, consider visiting the Underground River, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
🏄 Siargao (6 Nights)
We wrapped our trip on Siargao Island—and wow. It instantly became one of my favorite places ever. Known for its surfing (even if you don’t surf), it’s a vibe.
Base yourself in General Luna, the main town filled with cafés, surf shops, and beach bars. Rent a scooter and explore waterfalls, palm tree forests, and secret coves.
You’ll need at least 5–6 days here. You will not want to leave early.
Final Thoughts
Three weeks in the Philippines flies by faster than you think. From the wild boat tours to kayaking in lagoons and walking on sandbars in the middle of the ocean—this trip was packed with moments that genuinely left me speechless.
If you’re looking for a destination with wow factor, adventure, and the friendliest locals you’ll ever meet, put the Philippines at the top of your list. And when you go, be present—every second is worth soaking in.
